Some new UI changes and other bits

Hello again, Fox here with some more Cataclysm goodies

This time, I'll show you the new Talents window (not talent points though, I'll go over those when I look into class changes in a later post), Character gear and stat viewer window, Spellbook window and a few little UI changes here and there (it's not really a huge post but still worth mentioning)

So first things first, The character selection screen is exactly the same as it is currently

However, they have changed the Character creation screen slightly. It's not much, but they've just animated the characters upon choosing a class for them. For example, if you choose a Dwarf, and then rogue, it would lunge forward and chop at the screen. If you choose a Gnome mage, it'll cast a fireball, etc. Its hard to describe without seeing it so I'll make a video of it to show you later this evening, but I think it's pretty funky.

*EDIT*
Here is the video for that:

*****

Quest windows are still the same as those currently in game so no real changes there

They have tidied up the video and sound options menus to make them easier to use (Not that it was hard in the first place). It now has drop down menus as opposed to sliders and you can choose what sort of overall quality to run the game at

Anyway, boring stuff out the way, onto the less interesting stuff :P

The character gear & stat viewer window has been cleaned up and looks alot better than it did. It also tells you more stats and more information on stats (if you hover over them). It can tell you how much you need to cap a certain stat (Which is brilliant imo, no more number crunching or google browsing) The rep tab looks pretty much the same but, as you can see from my screenshot below, the mounts & Companions/pet tab has gone!

It's been moved to the spellbook and abilities Window. Odd I know, but it actually works. The spellbook window has been completely revamped, tidied up and organised. It tells you what you can learn, when, if a new spell is available (Whether you should visit your trainer or not) and other requirements/statuses for a particular ability. The particular talent tabs are still there as before. I personally think it's a definite improvement on the current one, and am pleased to see Blizzard have finally done something about the unorganised mess currently in game.

Although I haven't got any screenshots of the mounts/companions tab, they take the same look as the above windows, combined with whats currently in game at the moment. So it shows the icons of all your mounts/pets, with a 3D model view of your selected one.

The talents window is the most dramatically changed one. Upon reaching level 10, you go to your talent window and get greeted with an option window where you get to chose what area of your class to specialise in. It shows all the available areas, and a brief description on what they do. You can have a look at all the talent trees before making your decision. You also have a 'learn' button , followed by a confirmation window once you make your choice. It's a little annoying to be asked if you're sure you want to put your talent point there every time you level, but it'll mean kiddies can't complain if they do something stupid with them.

I'll go into the details of maps in a later blog so I'll leave this as it is for now. As mentioned earlier, I'll edit this post with a video of the character creation screen once I've recorded the footage.

Next entry will depend on if they've fixed the Goblin quests. If so, expect all things green. If not, possibly maps, or screenshots of some of the new zones, or what's changed in the old ones.

Until then

-Fox
